Dry Brushing: How To & Benefits
What is dry brushing?
Dry brushing is an affordable and very effective method to improve the appearance and condition of the skin. The best results can be observed when brushing the body regularly, once a day.
As the name suggests, dry brushing is performed on dry skin. Dry brushing is a massage and exfoliation at the same time. It's a gorgeous ritual which improves the condition of the skin, reduces cellulite & promotes overall health.
What are the benefits of dry brushing?
Dry brushing has so many benefits! It may feel daunting at first, as you really need to be regular but hey - it's so worth it. Dry brushing:

- exfoliates the skin leaving it soft and improving absorption of body lotions,
- reduces swelling,
- detoxifies skin & body,
- improves blood circulation,
- improves colour of the skin,
- regulates sebum production making dry skin more hydrated,
- improves skin elasticity and makes it more resistant to stretching (great before pregnancy !).
How to dry brush ?
Now that you're convinced that dry brushing is a MUST to add to your skincare ritual, here are some important tips on how to do it.How often and for how long to dry brush?
It would be best if you brushed your skin every day or every other day. The skin will improve its firmness and colour after couple sessions! Cellulite will be reduced after 20 - 30 sessions.
How long should you dry brush for? 5 minutes a day is perfectly enough! At the beginning you can brush your skin 1-2 minutes, to let the skin get used to thick brush, and gradually extend the brushing time. Dry brushing is not the most pleasant of skincare rituals - after brushing your skin you may observe redness, but this is absolutely normal... and results will make it worth it :)
Dry brushing step by step
So, how to dry brush? Start at your feet and brush upward - always toward the heart. Legs, thighs, belly, buttocks and then arms. When you start on your arms, begin at the hands and work upward.
Use firm, small strokes upward, or work in a circular motion. For the stomach, work in a clockwise direction.
Harsh brushing is never the point - so try not to press too hard, as the brushes for dry brushing are quite stiff. The skin should never be scratched or damaged - but it will be red after the brushing and that's completely normal.
Dedicate at least 3 to 5 minutes to dry brushing.
When not to dry brush?
Don't dry brush your skin if you have inflammation, scars, wounds, sunburn or acne.
