Mature Skin Makeup Guide

The anti-aging industry is a multi-billion dollar industry so understandably the market is extremely over saturated with different tips, tricks & techniques on how to preserve your youth! I can't promise that this article will turn back the time on your skin but I can share a few pro makeup tips & tricks of my own to help enhance your mature skin!

Hydration!

A good skincare routine is without a doubt, the most important step of any good makeup routine – no matter our age!

As we age, our skin experiences many changes such as loss of elasticity, dryness & the appearance of fine lines or wrinkles. There are many techniques or treatments you can undergo to target these changes however one step that your skin will always be thankful for is hydration!

Incorporating hydrating serums & moisturisers into your skincare routine will prep your skin to ensure it looks radiant & plump! Keep an eye out for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycerin, peptides, omega fatty acids & natural, lightweight oils. Theses ingredients will effortlessly nourish the skin barrier whilst working beneath the skins surface to target the key signs of aging.

No matter the weather or the season, SPF should always be part of your skincare routine. Sun protection shields our skin from the harmful & damaging UVA/UVB rays that are one of the leading causes of skin aging & skin damage. Always apply as the final step of your routine and be sure to re-apply through the day. This is the only skin we are going to get, take good care of it!

Evolve 200mg Hyaluronic Serum

This lightweight serum gives instant hydration to the skin. This fast absorbing serum is formulated alongside pomegranate extract & glycerin to keep the skin feeling extra soft & supple!

MERME Facial Collagen Serum

Improve your skins elasticity, wrinkles & radiance with this vegan collagen serum! Formulated as a 100% match to human collagen, this serums rejuvenating properties help restore hydration and firmness back into the skin.

The Base!

Rather than trying to cover fine lines & wrinkles, even out your skin tone with a sheer, lightweight foundation or BB cream. Using a brush or your fingers, blend the product out until it seamlessly melts into your skin.

Once your skin is evened out, apply a creamy concealer that blends out effortlessly. For the under eyes, the concept “less is more” could not be more effective. The skin is incredibly thin and this is an area that is typically drier and has many fine lines - which concealer loves to settle in! My top tip is to apply a small amount to the inner & outer corner, and then blend out with your fingers or a brush. This technique will tackle the darkest part of discolouration while simultaneously lifting the eye area, giving the face dimension.

RMS "Un" Cover-Up Corrector

This creamy, hydrating corrector offers a radiant, buildable coverage – ideal for day to day use! Formulated with skin loving ingredients such as jojoba oil & coconut oil, this product is perfect for concealing under eyes, redness & pigmentation!

What About Powder?

Much like foundation & concealer, use powder sparingly. As the skin is naturally drier, mature skin doesn’t need to be intensely mattified! A light dusting of powder on the areas where you want to minimise shine should be just enough. If you do want to use powder, a loose powder will give a slightly softer look - use a small, fluffy brush for detailed application.

Cream Products

Adding a natural hit of colour back into the skin is the easiest way to create radiance. Peach or pink tones are the best for adding a lift of colour for light to medium skin tones. Plum, berry or red toned blushes are best to define medium to dark skin tones.

NUI Cream Blush – TIAKARETE & PITITI

This 3 in 1 formula is super hydrating with an unbeatable creamy texture that transforms into a soft powder finish when applied on the skin. TIAKARETE is a beautiful rich burgundy & PITITI is a youthful rosy pink.

Apply the blush to the highpoints of the cheekbones and blend inwards, this will give a more flattering look to mature skin as opposed to the traditional application of directly onto the apples.

Cream highlighters and bronzers can add a subtle touch of glow while still enhancing the skin. Creams don’t settle into lines as much as powdered products, so these are great additions to your makeup bag!

RMS Buriti Bronzer

This high pigment, moisturising bronzer adds the perfect kiss of sun to the skin! Formulated with hydrating shea butter & cocoa butter this product nourishes the skin while giving an effortless glow.

Switch It Up!

Darker shades can begin to look quite harsh on mature skin so replacing black with colours such as brown, navy or dark blue will still create the intensity but with a softer finish.

If you are an eyeliner lover but are concerned it may be looking too harsh on your skin, my favourite tip is to replace the eyeliner for an eyeshadow! Applying a dark, matte eyeshadow with a detailed shadow brush into the areas where you would typically apply eyeliner can give a subtle, sultry look to the eye.

Eyeshadow doesn’t have to be an everyday essential but when done right, it can create a dramatic difference in how the eyes appear. Rather than applying the colour directly onto the lid, use a small brush and apply a tiny amount starting from the outer corner of the eyes and blend inwards. This technique will diffuse the colour from light to dark, making the eyes appear larger & wide-eyed.
