gitti, 23-free nail polish and hand care
Founded in Berlin by Jennifer Baum-Minkus, gitti makes 23-free nail polish, free from the 23 controversial ingredients found in conventional polishes, with up to 82% ingredients of natural origin. The range covers colour, base and top coats, nail and cuticle care, hands and a few make-up products.
Nail polish: colour and wear
The polishes give a high-shine gel effect without a UV lamp. The formula contains vitamin E, grape seed oil and radish root extract, and the polishes are made in Europe. Shades include Nail Polish No. 102 - Classic Red, a classic red, Nail Polish No. 114 - Pink Sheen, a semi-sheer pink, and Nail Polish No. 195 - Tender Rosé, a pale, powdery rosé. Nail Glaze is a vegan polish, 82% plant-based, opaque in one coat and lasting up to 7 days. Nail Tint is a milky pink. The Mini Nail Polish Set holds two polishes and a Top & Base Coat in 8 ml sizes.
Tinted treatments
Four sheer formulas sit between polish and care. Nail Mylk, with calcium, oat extract and kaolin, leaves a milky white veil and smooths ridges. Nail Smoothie, a soft pink, contains strawberry seed oil, avocado oil and vegan collagen. Nail Juice, a Pink Guava shade with a jelly finish, combines vitamins C and E with vegan collagen. CC Nail Editor neutralises yellow tones with violet pigments.
Base coats, top coats and finishing
Plant-based Top & Base Coat, with 88.5% plant-based ingredients, works as both base and top coat. It improves wear and protects nails from discolouration. High Gloss Top Coat contains lab-grown diamond powder; according to the brand, it makes polish last up to 10 days. Matte Top & Base Coat gives any polish a matte finish. Smoothing Nail Primer, with kaolin, mastic gum and lemon extract, fills ridges; according to the brand, it extends manicure wear by 3 days. Vita Restore Base Coat, with a light rosy tint, is worn alone or under polish. Quick Dry Solution makes polish dry twice as fast. The acetone-free Nail Corrector Pen cleans up mistakes.
Nails and cuticles
Exfoliating Cuticle Gel, with fruit-derived AHAs, softens cuticles, and the glass Cuticle Pusher pushes them back. Restoring Nail Serum combines plant keratin, apricot kernel oil, betaine and biotin. Nourishing Nail Oil, a fragrance-free two-phase oil, is the last step of the manicure. Hydra Nail Oil, a roll-on, contains apricot kernel oil, squalane and marula oil. The glass Nail File and Nail Buffer complete the kit. Nail Polish Remover, vegan and PETA-certified, contains jojoba, argan and lavender oils.
Hands
AHA Jelly Hand Exfoliator combines an AHA complex with ultra-fine bamboo particles. Day Hydrating Hand Cream contains a botanical retinol alternative and absorbs quickly. Night Restoring Hand Balm, with vegan collagen, goes on at night; according to the brand, it reduces wrinkles after 28 days.
Make-up
Lip Glaze Nourishing Lip Gloss contains peptides and plant oils. Velvet Cheeks Mousse Blush comes in three shades. All Glow Face & Body Highlighter is a fluid highlighter with Aquaxyl®. Infinite Lash Mascara has a double-sided brush, is ophthalmologically tested and suits contact lens wearers. Brow Control Transparent Brow Gel uses a sugar complex instead of acrylates.
A five-step manicure
- File the nails, apply the cuticle gel and push the cuticles back.
- Apply a base: Smoothing Nail Primer or Top & Base Coat.
- Apply your polish.
- Seal with the high-gloss top coat, then add a few drops of Quick Dry Solution.
- Once dry, massage Nourishing Nail Oil into nails and cuticles.
