Salt & Stone: aluminium-free deodorants and scented body care
Founded in Los Angeles in 2017 by former professional snowboarder Nima Jalali, Salt & Stone makes body care for an active life. The formulas pair algae extracts with skincare ingredients (hyaluronic acid, probiotics, niacinamide or squalane, depending on the product) and unisex fragrances. The range covers deodorants, body washes, body lotion and cream, a body mist and a candle.
Deodorants: two aluminium-free formulas
The Extra Strength Deodorant (Formula 1) is the brand’s best-seller. This stick combines algae extracts, hyaluronic acid, probiotics and essential oils, while magnesium and baking soda neutralise odour for 24 hours. It contains no aluminium, alcohol, parabens or colourants. According to the brand, the case is made from plastic recovered from the ocean.
The Sensitive Deodorant (Formula 2) keeps the same base of probiotics, algae extracts and hyaluronic acid but leaves out baking soda, an ingredient that can irritate sensitive skin. It also protects for 24 hours. The clear formula glides on without residue and leaves no marks on clothes.
The Mini Deodorant Set brings together four scents in travel size, including Bergamot & Hinoki, Santal & Vetiver and Neroli & Basil, so you can try several before choosing a full size.
Body washes: five unisex scents
All body washes share one base: antioxidants, marine plant extracts and hydrating ingredients. They cleanse without drying and help offset the effects of wind, sun and sea water. Only the scent changes. Bergamot & Hinoki Body Wash opens on Italian bergamot and grapefruit, with a heart of hinoki and vetiver. Santal & Vetiver Body Wash pairs Australian sandalwood, amber, iris and cedar. Saffron & Cedar Body Wash blends saffron, neroli, jasmine and cedarwood. Black Rose & Oud Body Wash combines black rose, lily of the valley, oud and sandalwood. Neroli & Basil Body Wash brings together neroli, basil, French lavender and shiso leaf.
Body care: lotion, cream and mist
The Body Lotion absorbs quickly and contains algae extracts and niacinamide. It comes in all five body wash scents. For drier skin, the Body Cream is richer: algae extracts and squalane support the skin’s moisture barrier. It comes in Bergamot & Hinoki, Santal & Vetiver and Saffron & Cedar.
The Body Mist is sprayed all over the body and leaves a thin layer of glycerin and red algae with a light scent. All scents are unisex and vegan.
Scented candle
The Candle is made from a blend of coconut and soy waxes. It comes in the range’s signature scents plus Fig & Violet: fig, coconut milk and violet. Burn time: 50 hours.
A five-step body routine
- Wash with a body wash in the scent of your choice.
- Apply the Body Lotion to slightly damp skin, or the Body Cream if your skin feels tight.
- Apply the Extra Strength Deodorant to dry skin, or the Sensitive Deodorant if your skin is sensitive.
- Spray the Body Mist to extend the scent.
- Keep a deodorant from the Mini Deodorant Set in your bag for the day.
Frequently asked questions
Extra Strength or Sensitive: what’s the difference? Both formulas protect against odour for 24 hours and are aluminium-free. The Sensitive Deodorant contains no baking soda, for skin that doesn’t tolerate it well.
Can I wear the same scent from shower to body care? Yes. Bergamot & Hinoki, Santal & Vetiver and Saffron & Cedar come as body wash, lotion and cream. Black Rose & Oud and Neroli & Basil come as body wash and lotion.
