Bastille, natural unisex eaux de parfum
Founded in Paris in 2020 by Marie-Hortense Varin and run since 2022 by Sophie Maisant, Bastille creates unisex eaux de parfum with 95% natural ingredients of French or European origin and 5% synthetic molecules. Its formulas are short, with 27 to 53 ingredients, whereas a conventional perfume can contain up to 300; they are made in France, without colourants or UV filters.
Citrus and green notes
The Hors-Piste Eau de Parfum, by Domitille Michalon-Bertier, takes its cue from the gin and tonic: mandarin, sweet orange and juniper, then maté, ginger and pink pepper, over cedar and ambroxan. The Rayon Vert Eau de Parfum, by Caroline Dumur, pairs basil, anise seed, blackcurrant bud and neroli with a heart of angelica, caraway, fennel and chamomile, over immortelle, sandalwood and cedar.
Floral
The Pleine Lune Eau de Parfum, by Anne Flipo, contains 39 ingredients: bergamot, maté, matcha and pink pepper at the top, tuberose, neroli, orange blossom and jasmine at the heart, benzoin, tonka bean, sandalwood and cedar at the base.
Spicy and woody
The Bataille Eau de Parfum, by Nicolas Beaulieu, brings together ginger, saffron, pink pepper and magnolia, then sage and Virginia cedar, over patchouli, tonka bean and amber. By the same perfumer, the Paradis Nuit Eau de Parfum pairs neroli, petitgrain and a Marseille soap accord with cassie flower, cedar and patchouli, over cocoa, sandalwood and hay.
Gourmand
The Un Deux Trois Soleil Eau de Parfum, by Domitille Michalon-Bertier, combines bitter almond, heliotrope and incense over vanilla, tonka bean and benzoin. The Demain Promis Eau de Parfum, by Caroline Dumur, pairs cinnamon and cardamom with a heart of rose, lavender, sage and a milk accord, over patchouli, sandalwood and vetiver. The 14 Juillet Eau de Parfum, by Meabh Mc Curtin, opens on a “firework” accord, tangerine and blackcurrant, before a base of Fair For Life certified Madagascar vanilla, benzoin and tonka bean.
Choosing your perfume in five steps
- Choose a family: citrus, floral, spicy or gourmand.
- Test the fragrance on skin rather than on a paper strip.
- Let the perfume develop, from top notes to base notes.
- Compare no more than two fragrances at a time.
- Once chosen, spray it from a distance on the neck and wrists.
Frequently asked questions
Why 95% natural ingredients rather than 100%? According to the brand, the 5% synthetic molecules widen the olfactory palette; 95% is also the threshold required for the “natural eau de parfum” designation.
Are the fragrances unisex? Yes: every creation is unisex.
